mask off and is on a mission of his own. ♪ music kevin: hello, everyone. ♪ music kevin: hello, everyone. i'm kevin frazier. welcome to ea sports game changers. you know, one of the most interesting players in the nfl is houston texans defensive end jj watt. in just three years, this two-time pro bowler has really proven himself as a leader both on and off the field. it's a character trait that he displayed early on in his life. kevin: there are more than two million people living in houston, texas; and on nfl sundays, most of those two million folks have

their eyes on this man. justin james watt is one of the most impressive defensive players in football, dominating green gridirons all around the league. in his first three seasons, jj racked up 36.5 sacks, two pro bowl appearances, and the 2012 ap defensive player of the year award; but on this day, jj is on a different kind of field playing a different sport and giving some of his biggest fans an experience they will never forget. the day started with a perfectly planned blitz as jj successfully snuck up and surprised baseball and softball players from frank black middle school. jj: what's going on, guys? girl: oh, my gosh, i'm playing frisbee with jj watt. he's standing five feet away from me. jj: nice, nice.

boy: it was cool. jj: uh-oh. girl: i'm so excited when we saw him. it was amazing. kevin: frisbee football, pigskin football, soccer, and all around goofing around, for jj, he felt right at home. jj: oh! i'm a big kid. you know, i'm 25 years old, but i'm a big kid at heart, and i just want to play. good game. kevin: and play he did as a young boy growing up in the town of pawaukee, wisconsin. jj believes his dream-like rise to the nfl can be attributed to the strong family unit he was raised in, starting with his mom. jj: my relationship with my mother is huge. i mean, nothing would be possible without her. she helped keep me disciplined. kevin: always looking to give advice to kids chasing their own dreams, jj firmly believes anything for anyone is possible. jj: it's just cool to have you guys out here. i love being able to talk to you, because i want to try and get that message across that if you do the right thing, that if you work hard every single day, and you make the right choices, you're going to be able to have success. kevin: in fact, his motto is simple. dream big, and work hard, you will succeed,

a credo he credits to his parents. jj: between her and my dad, they made sure that i was doing the right thing. they made sure that i was doing my homework. they made sure i got to practice. they helped me out and gave me a chance to succeed. y'all ready? kevin: while jj is grateful for his childhood, he realizes not every child has the ideal family situation. never one to hesitate, jj created the justin j. watt foundation, a place to help and breathe hope. jj: i had done some volunteering. i've been visiting a lot of schools and seen a lot of different situations. one thing that i saw become common was that budget cuts in schools were making after-school athletics become non-existent. growing up playing sports, knowing what they could do for a person, knowing how they can help you succeed not just in sports, but in life, made me want to give back and made me want to find a way to make sure that these kids get that opportunity. announcer: last batter up, jj watt!

think. kevin: but today, these girls are going to get a lot more than just exercise. they're getting the surprise of a lifetime. stefan: there's really something that i want you to experience as a team and do something a little bit different for practice today, but we can't do it here. so we're actually going to pick up our stuff, and we're going to go this way. girl: okay. stefan: good? kevin: giddy with excitement, the girls load into the bus one by one. girl: i actually have no idea where we're going. girl 2: we're on a bus going somewhere. we don't know where, and we're all really excited. girl 3: we're on this magical bus. i'm going to call it the magic school bus, and we're going to a magic place we don't know. kevin: eight miles and dozens of nonstop questions later... team: where are we going? kevin: ...the squad arrives at their mystery destination right here beneath the seattle space needle. coach persson has brought the squad to

finish today's practice here at memorial stadium, home to the seattle reign football club, the city's professional women's soccer team. stefan: think about the space that you're in. imagine, you know, game's on the line, you're at the penalty strike. nice, good placement. good strike. kevin: this is where olympic gold medalist megan rapinoe plays midfield. during games, the other team never knows what to expect from megan. little do the girls know, this practice is about to change big time. [cheering] team: hi! megan: hi, you guys. how are you? team: good! megan: do you guys have any questions or anything? girl: how long have you been playing soccer? megan: i've been playing soccer for 23, almost 24 years, so i've been playing since i was five. you know, even when you get to this level, yeah, there's a--there is a serious part to it, but i get to play soccer for a living, and there's no better job than that. you know, sports can be competitive sometimes, but for me, the most important thing is to

always have fun and always enjoy yourself. this is a special thing that we get to do, so let's get after it. kevin: this day instantly went from great to unbelievable. the valkyries not only get to practice on a professional field... megan: did you guys see me walking in over there? girl: we saw a person. i snuck right in, didn't i? kevin: ...they get to kick it, literally, with their hero. megan: who's ready? [cheering] megan: okay. there we go! there we go! get up there! yeah, there we go! good job! there you go. you guys have fun so far? team: yeah! megan: yeah? all right, now the real fun part. it's not every day that you get to play with a professional, right? so we're going to play everybody against me. you guys think that you can beat me? team: yeah! megan: you think so? all right. okay, now you guys got to score a goal. aw! okay, 1-0. oh, good pass.

aw! yes! aw! kevin: the valkyries learned firsthand just how much they can achieve as a team. megan: aw! individually, if i just took one of you guys on, i could probably beat you, right? let's hope so, right? but as a team, i can't beat you. you guys totally whooped me. kevin: it was one loss megan was happy to take. megan: to see those kids, it's just, like -- this is the best job in the world just to see that joy and see how much passion, how much energy they have just to be out there playing. girl: thanks, megan. megan: you're very welcome. it's just fun for them. it's just literally something that excites them and makes them happy to just be running around and to try to, you know, always take that with me and always keep them in my game. kevin: and there's no doubt that all of the valkyrie girls will keep this day close to their hearts. natalie: today was the best day ever. sophia: it is a good day when you get to meet a

playing in his apartment, and he's just got the winning goal, and he's pretty excited, but he's only as excited as this particular guy gets, which is not very much, and then clint dempsey miraculously appears alongside him in his apartment, basically, to say, "you can do better than that." clint: that's your goal celebration? ross: but here's the problem, and it's a big one, when we got to london, the crew was there, but clint dempsey was not. man: action. michael: today's monday, and on friday night, we heard that clint wasn't going to be either on the shoot or even in our hemisphere. ross: at the last minute, dempsey had to be with his team, so the crew went to plan b. michael: what we decided all together was that we would go on as planned and shoot it without him, and then through the magic of digital post-production, insert him into it at a later date. sam: come on, show me the business. so i'm sam bailey, and i am standing in for clint dempsey.

you can do better than that. ross: with sam standing in, the commercial team was able to shoot everything they needed in london and reschedule clint's bit about a week later in dallas, texas. part two of this epic adventure entails filming clint up against a green screen so that digital wizards in post-production can insert him into the footage that's already been shot in london, footage clint got to see himself. clint: it was weird looking at someone play me, but it gave me an idea of kind of what to expect and what they were looking for, and it was really helpful in making that process easy. ross: let's just see how easy clint made it all look. clint: okay, now ride that wave. come on, show me what you got. he keeps doing this like it's the business. he's doing the business. i'm trying to get him to ride the wave. i'm trying to have a bad whistle.

it's been cool. you don't realize how much goes into a commercial. there's a lot of -- more work than what you would expect, but the team is great. they made it really easy for me and made me feel comfortable as far as interacting with the other actor and being able to, you know, make a cool and funny video. ross: despite the last minute changes, the commercial went off without a hitch, though one thing might have made it a little easier. michael: if i have one complaint about clint dempsey, it's that the man cannot blow a whistle to save his life. clint: show me what you got. michael: give it a nice, like, sharp... clint: all right. it was difficult. i probably blew it a hundred times today and probably only did it right three times. so i blame it on the first whistle they gave me. it was malfunctioning, and then the second one was better. michael: that's not something you're trained to do, you know, on that side of the playing field, so it makes sense; but gosh, we could have gotten this day done so much quicker if he could have been a little bit more on the ball with that whistle, but i'm not complaining. ross: neither are we, as long as clint promises

jason: hi, i'm jason castro, catcher of the houston, astros; but today, we're at joe moreno elementary school passing out a bunch of books from castro's kids program. come on in. woman: mr. jason castro! kevin: jason castro is getting cheers on and off the field these days. the rising star of the houston, astros, was named to his first major league all-star team in 2013. at 6'3" and 215 pounds, he's one of the best hitting catchers in all of baseball; but off the field, his focus is on his charity, castro's kids. jason: castro's kids is a fun approach to education. our goal is to get kids reading, interested in

in. i'm laila ali. how far would you go to reach your ultimate goal? what would you be willing to risk? our next story features a team putting it all on the line at incredible speed on the water in a brave attempt to end an eight year curse. laila: the extreme sailing series is giving the sport of sailing an adrenaline-fueled boost. it's like f-1 racing on the high seas with the best sailors in the world pushing 40-foot carbon fiber catamarans to speeds close to 50 miles an hour. nice, france, is one of the eight stops on the

tour. for austrian skipper roman hagara and his racing team, it's a chance at redemption. because of a series of bad luck, nice has been the only leg of the tour to elude hagara, and it's got people talking about a curse. roman: here in nice, i think there is a good chance for our team. we like the place here. we had already some good racing last year and hope this year in this act we can win now. laila: the extreme 40's fins look delicate, but can mean the difference between winning and losing. hans-peter: the other guys on the boat are checking the rig. they make the right settings. laila: hagara arrives back from the opening ceremony to review the progress. the setup of the fins and the type of sail used are tactical decisions. with intense pressure to finally break through and win, the correct choice is critical.

the quiet austrian projects cool confidence. he knows he must inspire his team to stay calm and sail fast. extreme sailing regattas, or acts, are made up of a series of sprint heats held over four days. eight boats knife through a course of three buoys for the best finishing position. the overall winning team is the one with the most points after all sprints have been run. the countdown to the first race is on. boats jockey for prime starting spots. as the clock reaches zero, hagara's team finds itself in a bad position, but the veteran crew is unfazed by their poor start. they're sailing in strong 18 knot winds, ideal conditions for their setup. these boats are designed to fly with even the

lightest wind. hagara and crew work in perfect unison, hungry to put an end to their run of bad luck. last year's winners, french team rothschild, looks strong again and are among the leaders early on in day one, but hagara and his crew win the seventh heat to take the points lead. they look confident heading into the final race of the day. laila: just a few seconds into the next heat, disaster strikes. hagara's boat gets caught in a pileup and sustains considerable damage. with their craft taking on water, the crew is forced to withdraw from the day's final race. despite the setback, hagara and crew end the day tied for the lead, but their cursed luck in nice continues. roman: actually, the guys who were involved

and caused a problem were still racing, and the two other boats which were in the incident with us couldn't race. so both boats have a hole, and we had to stop racing. leigh: yeah, it's a big repair. it's going to be an all-nighter, and i think we'll be lucky to be on board tomorrow morning. laila: the crew is forced to work late into the night to repair the gaping hole. laila: as the sun rises on day two, all teams are busy inspecting their boats. hagara's sleep deprived crew is putting the finishing touches on the repair. they're exhausted, but determined to build off

their solid performance from day one. laila: day two sees hagara's team getting off to a much better start; but as the race wears on, they begin to show signs of fatigue. hagara takes a risk pushing boat and crew to the limit, tightening the gap with the rothschild team, but the curse of nice strikes again. the main sail rope snaps, shattering their dreams of victory. hagara and his crew watch helplessly as team rothschild cross the finish line. roman: actually, the biggest problem was that three of our crew members were not really fit; and in the end, with the short races and the strong winds, you have to pull really hard on the ropes, and everything has to be

laila: welcome back to all in. this next story is something special. you're about to see the bright lights of las vegas shine on a dance crew as they go all in. las vegas, famous for bright lights and electrifying entertainment, is where jabbawockeez call home. known for winning america's best dance crew, this group is one of the best in the world; and for one of the dancers, working in vegas means giving back to his hometown. ronnie: my name is ronnie abaldonado. i go by b-boy ronnie. laila: b-boy ronnie helped create district studios, a place for both training and teaching. ronnie: growing up in vegas, we never got the opportunities that a lot of the dancers have now, you know? it's not just a studio. we have our barber shop, our tats parlor, and we have our little merchandise store, and it's just a place for people to hang out.

the showdown is set for the next stop. man: welcome to miami, florida. it's the 22nd annual super boat miami grand prix. man 2: this is the place to be. there's almost no better place than racing in miami. laila: miami is the birthplace of the sport and the only race worth double points, giving teams added incentive to push their boat to the limits. combine this with miami's notoriously unpredictable weather, and teams are faced with a potential for high winds and choppy seas. for this team, who have a lot of points to make up from their last two races, this means running their machine at dangerously fast speeds. roderick: the biggest class, super boat unlimited class. you know, without a doubt, they've got the best throttle man in the world. laila: the throttle man controls the power of the engine, while the pilot aims to steer them to victory. john: i'm on the power, off the power, adjust it in rough water conditions, and i'm on and off the gass. tor: he is a legendary. he is the best.

roderick: boats start arriving, you know, here in miami -- we're down at bayfront park down by the bayside mall, and boats start to arrive on thursday night, and everyone was rolling in early. people get excited, you know, to start racing; and weather conditions like you see today, we've got overcast. we've got a lot of storms offshore, and that sort of ruins their setup, so they've got to pay attention to what's going to go on today. we made it through our drivers meeting this morning, so everyone -- all the boats are pulling up to the cranes, ready to get craned in; and if all goes well, we should be in good shape to go up at 1:00, which is planned. we have manatee helicopters. we have safety helicopters. we have safety boats. you know, we have patrol boats. you know, we have scoring boats. so we have a lot of logistics to organize out there right now; and when race control calls in, you know, we're ready to go. laila: even with uncertain weather conditions threatening the competition, the dedicated teams keep prepping for the biggest race of the tour.

john: yeah, everything looks good after yesterday's test session. the boat's in good shape, no problems, couldn't find anything to be aware of, so should be ready to go, hopefully, in an hour or so. man: we had some horrendous weather earlier. it's all passed now. the sun has come out to show off these blue-green beautiful atlantic waters, as 13 of the biggest and fastest race boats in the world will be duking it out momentarily for prizes and checkered flags. man 2: looks like gasse pulling out a slight lead now. they'll have to start thinking about setting up for this turn. laila: the powerboats must race through a total of 13 laps. 77 miles from the start is the elusive checkered flag. norway's team gasse has no plans to repeat their cocoa beach disappointment.

man: indeed, it is gasse and lucas oil side by side. what a battle. laila: other teams, including a determined lucas oil squad, just can't match the power of the gasse boat, which manages to hit speeds near 150 miles an hour. man: first place for the checkered flag, number eight, gasse! laila: it looks like a couple of days of down time spent tweaking their boat's engine pays off for team gasse, who come back to win the overall trophy at the super boat international championships. tor: well, we have had a beautiful day here at miami, and we did win. this is mark. ...at work. for those who want to enjoy their days...
